Registration Information 

Job Ready and Career Exploration

Welding (Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced)                                    $600 (30 hours) includes materials

Learn skills in basic electric arc (stick), oxy-fuel, gas metal arc (MIG), and gas tungsten arc (TIG) welding processes, as well as the safety procedures required to set up and shut down welding equipment. Industrial standards and American Welding Society standards are the foundation of our curriculum. Teaching will be accelerated depending on student’s experience. The goal for many will be preparation for AWS certification. Up to 50% in tuition assistance may be available.  Limit 8 students

Woodworking & Furniture Making                                                         $325 (24 hours) includes materials

Interested in woodworking for pleasure, or thinking of becoming part of the growing furniture making industry in Newport? This course will cover tool safety for machine and hand tools, micrometer usage, shop math, gluing techniques, and finish work; all while creating a piece of furniture that you can take home. Up to 50% tuition assistance may be available. Limit 5 students

Culinary Boot Camp                                                                                        $260 (18 hours) includes materials

Whether you are a Food Network fan or you are thinking about working in the restaurant industry, this class will cover the basics you need to be a professional in the kitchen.  Knife skills, seasoning techniques, making sauces, and cooking meat and seafood to perfection, and more will be covered in this three week session. Up to 50% tuition assistance may be available.

Sewing and Clothing Design                                                                    $145 (12.5 hours) includes materials

This course introduces students to the basic skills required to sew: including design concepts, selecting and preparing patterns, operating sewing equipment, and completing a sewing project. Whether you are interested in making your own clothes, or curious about a career in sewing, this course can be the foundation. Up to 50% tuition assistance may be available.

Wednesdays, October 7 - November 4

Prepare to be a Paraeducator                                                                    $80 (8 hours) plus $35 text

This course introduces students to the diverse role of paraeducators in the classroom including an introduction to the profession, an overview of the role and responsibilities, how services are provided, inclusion, collaborative teaming, instructional strategies, and how to support students with challenging behaviors. This course also reviews materials that will be required for the ParaPro exam that is given by the district’s supervisory unions. Up to 50% tuition assistance may be available.

Customer Service and Cash Register Training                                     $100.00 (10 hours)

Learn how to serve customers with confidence and impress managers with your capability. Gain familiarity operating new cash registers (POS systems) and learn multiple types of transactions that go along with retail sales. Up to 50% tuition assistance may be available.

Health Careers

Licensed Nurse Assistant Program (LNA)                              $1050 course  - text $75 – licensing fees $150    

This 119 hour State Board of Nursing approved course focuses on essentials for nursing assistants, and safe and effective practices in the health care setting. Students learn the basics of assisting patients, body mechanics, ethics, and communication, while preparing for licensing exam. The written and skill LNA test is scheduled upon completion. Applicants must be able to pass a background check. Proof of immunizations and current TB test must be received with registration. Up to 50% tuition assistance may be available.  Limit eight students.

Introduction to Phlebotomy                                                       $813 course - $79.99 for text - $30 lab fee

There is a demand for phlebotomists, and this course can teach you the skills you need to be job ready. This 45 hour Community College of Vermont three credit course covers the proper collection of blood specimens, choice of proper phlebotomy equipment, venipuncture techniques, patient care, safety, tests, and quality assurance. This course is designed to provide a minimum of 20 hours of practical instruction and skills development in phlebotomy. This course is being offered by CCV in partnership with the NCCC Adult Education. Enrollment will be through CCV, and classes will be held at the North Country Career Center. Apprenticeships may be available.

Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Training      

Class A $5200 / Class B $3500    (Class A 160 hours / Class B 75 hours)

Create new career possibilities for yourself with a CDL. To qualify for a CDL in Vermont, you must be at least 18 years old, have a valid driver’s license, pass a vision exam, and obtain a medical certificate. The United States Department of Transportation requires that all drivers, who transport materials across state lines, be at least 21 years old. Tuition includes permit, license, and testing fees. Grants may be available through the Department of Labor for females and minorities.

Basic Digital Photography                                                                            $60 (6 hours)

Have a really nice camera with full manual operation, but you are not sure how to take the best pictures? Learn the purpose of the knobs and buttons. Take it even further by learning about the exposure triangle, composition, and lighting. Students must bring their own DSLR camera to class.

Wondering what you are going to do this winter on those cold evenings? Why not learn how to make cozy projects for family and friends. Photoshop                                                                                                          $120 (12 hours)

Learn how to make your photos look even better. In this course you will prepare, alter, and improve images using tools such as the lasso, magic wand, color picker, clone tool, and healing brush; so that you can convert, resize, and color correct your images.  Computer lab access, free with registration.

Troubleshooting Computer Operating Systems                                 $60 (6 hours)

Have a computer that might have a virus, needs a new operating system, or would like to reinstall their operating system to make their old computer run like new? Learn how to diagnose basic problems and do your own updates. This class is geared towards people that are comfortable with computers, but want to better understand how computers work. Students will have the option to bring in their own computers to work on.  This course will only work with more recent operating systems. (Windows 7 to Windows 10)

Conversational Spanish                                                                                                $120 (12 hours)

This conversational-based class will cover basic elements of the language. Pronunciation of the Spanish alphabet and phonetics will introduce the student to proper Spanish sounds followed by lessons in a logical sequence which will cover “survival” vocabulary, e.g., “Where are the restrooms?”, asking directions and other pertinent information. Up to 50% tuition assistance may be available.
