This State Board of Nursing approved course focuses on essentials for nursing assistants, and safe and effective practices in the health care setting. Students learn the basics of assisting patients, body mechanics, ethics, and communication, while preparing for licensing exam. The written and skill LNA test is scheduled upon completion. Applicants must be able to pass a background check.

Clinical requirements will be completed with the lab setting.

Medication Nursing Assistant (MNA)

This class is offered to LNAs who hold an unencumbered Vermont LNA license and have no fewer than 4000 hours of LNA experience, 2000 hours or one year must be in a long term care nursing facility. Candidates must be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or GED and successfully complete TABE in Applied Mathematics Level D6.

Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT)

The AEMT functions as part of a comprehensive EMS response, under medical oversight. AEMTs perform interventions with the basic and advanced equipment typically found on an ambulance. The AEMT is a link from the scene to the emergency health care system.

Prerequisites - Current National Registry certification or state license at the EMT level, or a higher, current CPR-BLS for "Healthcare Provider" or equivalent credential.

Clinical medical assistants are skilled multi-taskers who help to maximize the productivity of the healthcare team.

In this course, you will medical terminology, medical law and ethics, HIPAA rules, scheduling systems, patient check-in and check-out, contents of a medical record, anatomy, pathophysiology, pharmacology, nutrition, phlebotomy theory, injections, and routine treatment and laboratory duties.

You will be also able to take the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) national certification exam offered by National Healthcareer Association (NHA). Pharmacy Technician (Voucher Included)

Pharmacy technicians have become indispensable to the health care industry, and it's a great time to join this growing field. Pharmacy technician classes can get you started on this fulfilling career path. You'll gain the skills and knowledge to qualify for entry-level positions in pharmacies and be prepared for national certification.

Upon completion of this course, you will be prepared to sit for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (PTCE), offered by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB). This course also includes a voucher which covers the fee of the exam. Pharmacy technician certification is an important issue for many industry employers and state legislatures, some of which now require national certification. You will also have the opportunity to apply for a 100+ hour externship.

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)

Prepare to be a Paraeducator - via Google Meet

Spring 2021

Local paraeducator and veteran adult education instructor Jennifer Theroux will move her class online to help prepare paraeducators for the many job opportunities in our region. Class will include an introduction to the diverse role of paraeducators in the classroom: how services are provided, inclusion, collaborative teaming, instructional strategies, and supporting students with challenging behaviors. This class will meet using Google Meet. Smartphone, tablet, or laptop with video and sound is required. Students are expected to prepare for class by reading assignments before each meeting to be ready for discussion.

***For students who want to be employed as paraeducators and need to take the ParaPro exam (those who have not completed 48 college credits) - a study guide will be provided, academic support available at NEKLS, exam fee coverage may be available.

Basic Refrigeration and Charging Procedures (HVACR)

This course is an introduction to air conditioning and refrigeration theory, application, systems, components, troubleshooting, and system charging. Hands-on training in our HVACR lab will test students in a variety of scenarios that they will encounter in the field. Completing this class will prepare students for EPA 608 Certification class.

To qualify for a CDL in Vermont, you must be at least 18, have a valid driver’s license, pass a vision exam, and obtain a medical certificate. The United States Department of Transportation requires that all drivers, who transport materials across state lines, be at least 21.

Important training for those living and working with youth ages 12 to 17 who may be struggling. Conversations about typical youth development vs signs and symptoms of a developing mental health illness will be discussed in this interactive workshop.

$800 Includes pre-vehicle use impairing substance screening

This course is for teenagers or adults who have a current Vermont Learner’s Permit and want to obtain a Vermont Driver’s License. While this course meets all state requirements, it places special emphasis on crash avoidance, situational awareness, and zone control. The academic component includes 15 or 16 classroom lessons, each lesson being 2 hours long. The driving component typically includes 12 or 13 behind-the-wheel lessons.

Course materials are to be picked up at the North Country Career Center parking lot near the main entrance on Sunday November 29th between 1:00 - 2:30pm
