CDL A – Vermont Commercial Driver’s License Class A

Earn your CDL and start your new career. To qualify for a CDL in Vermont, you must be at least 18, have a valid VT driver’s license, pass a drug test, and obtain a medical certificate. The United States Department of Transportation requires that all drivers who transport materials across state lines be at least 21.

Basic Refrigeration & Charging Procedures (HVACR)

This course is an introduction to air conditioning and refrigeration theory, application, systems, components, troubleshooting, and system charging. Hands-on training in our HVACR lab will test students in a variety of scenarios that they will encounter in the field. Students in this class will test for EPA 608 Certification.

TQP Fire Alarm Continuing Education for Electricians

This course provides Vermont electricians who have the T1 fire alarm endorsement with the required eight hours of continuing education needed to continue providing inspection and testing of fire alarm and detection systems and equipment.  New Hampshire electrical inspector Ken Vallery leads this class, bringing a sense of humor and real-world experience from his 35+ years in the field.

This CDL hazmat test course is designed for commercial motor vehicle drivers seeking a hazardous materials (H) endorsement to their Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). New in 2022, the hazmat endorsement is required to become a hazmat driver so that you can haul certain types of specialized freight and open new career opportunities as a driver. If you seek an endorsement such as this, you must complete this curriculum to take the state-administered knowledge test for the H endorsement.

Heartsaver®  First Aid CPR AED is a classroom, video-based, instructor-led course that teaches students critical skills needed to respond to and manage a first aid, choking, or sudden cardiac arrest emergency in the first few minutes until emergency medical services (EMS) arrives.  Students learn skills such as how to treat bleeding, sprains, broken bones, shock, and other first aid emergencies.  This course also teaches adult CPR and AED use.

This state-approved course focuses on essentials for nursing assistants and safe and effective practices in the health care setting. Students learn the basics of assisting patients, body mechanics, ethics, and communication, while preparing for the licensing exam. The written and skill LNA test is scheduled upon completion. Start your career in healthcare as a Medical Assistant in a high-demand position!  Learn medical terminology, medical law and ethics, HIPAA rules, scheduling systems, patient check-in and check-out, contents of a medical record, anatomy, pathophysiology, pharmacology, nutrition, phlebotomy theory, injections, and routine treatment and laboratory duties. 

Completers of the course will be able to take the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) national certification exam offered by National Healthcareer Association (NHA).  Completers are also referred to interviews for local positions through our partnership with North Country Hospital.

Learn medical and pharmaceutical terminology, basic anatomy related to the pharmacology of medications, and pharmaceutical calculations. Get hands-on practice in retail pharmacy procedures through an online lab module. Learn what information is necessary to process prescriptions and physician orders and apply that knowledge to fill mock prescriptions. Other topics include ethics of pharmacy practice, patient care and interaction, and charges and reimbursement.

Students can also apply for a 100+ hour externship at a local Walgreens pharmacy.

Upon completion, sit for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam, offered by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB), included in tuition.

Dental Assisting Program

Train to become a dental assistant in as little as six months.  This hybrid program includes online learning as well as a paid dental assisting training position with a local dental practice which allows students to earn while they learn.  Online learning topics include dental health and disease, infection control, radiology, and dental office management.  Clinical skills include dental procedures and protocols, dental charting, laboratory procedures and safety, and clinical safety.  This program is a collaboration of the Vermont Adult Career & Technical Education Association and the Vermont State Dental Society.

The VT Dept. of Health requires all restaurants to designate a person in charge who is a certified food protection manager.  Meet this important requirement with a ServSafe® certification exam!  You will learn the importance of food safety and how to prevent the spread of pathogens within a food service facility.

This course is for teenagers or adults who have a current Vermont Learner’s Permit and want to obtain a Vermont Driver’s License. While this course meets all state requirements, it places special emphasis on crash avoidance, situational awareness, and zone control. The academic component includes 15 or 16 classroom lessons, each lesson being 2 hours long. The driving component typically includes 12 or 13 behind-the-wheel lessons.
