Engaging the public in our schools comes in many forms, from newsletters and online surveys to advisory committees and town-wide forums. This lively, practical training will help you navigate the options to use the right tools at the right time, in order to strengthen communities’ trust in public schools and community organizations; improve multi-way communication among families, school, and community; and increase diverse community participation and authentic input to school planning and decision making. Participants will discover the latest research and new techniques to build inclusive, constructive engagement and strengthen communication; hone facilitation skills with an expert trainer; map out community engagement priorities and learn which tools are best suited; and exchange ideas and build connections with others in the NCSU network. Introduction to TIG Welding

Learn basic skills in gas tungsten arc welding (TIG welding) processes, as well as the safety procedures required to set up and shut down welding equipment. General Automotive Mechanics

Learn to diagnose and repair a wide variety of automotive issues. Students will have the opportunity to practice their developing skills on their own vehicles when appropriate. Specific topics covered will be determined with input from students, and may include brake systems, oil changes, exhaust repairs, suspension systems, basic scan tools and diagnostics, and more. This course is appropriate for people with no prior mechanical experience as well as those who would like to build on existing skills.

National Electrical Code Update

Calling all licensed electricians: earn your required 15 hours of board-approved code instruction locally! This class incorporates the International Association of Electrical Inspectors’ changes to the 2023 NEC program as well as Mike Holt’s Code Changes and is appropriate for those with licenses in Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Maine. Those with Type S special licenses can attend day one of this class for their 8 hours of approved training for a reduced tuition of $145. New Hampshire electrical inspector Ken Vallery leads this class, bringing a sense of humor and real-world experience from his 30+ years in the field.

Earn your CDL and start your new career. To qualify for a CDL in Vermont, you must be at least 18, have a valid VT driver’s license, pass a drug test, and obtain a medical certificate. This course is an introduction to air conditioning and refrigeration theory, application, systems, components, troubleshooting, and system charging. TQP Fire Alarm Continuing Education for Electricians

Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) for Hazardous Materials

This CDL hazmat test course is designed for commercial motor vehicle drivers seeking a hazardous materials (H) endorsement to their Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). New in 2022, the hazmat endorsement is required to become a hazmat driver so that you can haul certain types of specialized freight and open new career opportunities as a driver. If you seek an endorsement such as this, you must complete this curriculum to take the state-administered knowledge test for the H endorsement.

Learn medical and pharmaceutical terminology, basic anatomy related to the pharmacology of medications, and pharmaceutical calculations. Get hands-on practice in retail pharmacy procedures through an online lab module. Learn what information is necessary to process prescriptions and physician orders and apply that knowledge to fill mock prescriptions. Other topics include ethics of pharmacy practice, patient care and interaction, and charges and reimbursement.

Students can also apply for a 100+ hour externship at a local Walgreens pharmacy.

Upon completion, sit for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam, offered by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB), included in tuition.

Dental Assisting Program

Train to become a dental assistant in as little as six months. This hybrid program includes online learning as well as a paid dental assisting training position with a local dental practice which allows students to earn while they learn. While this course meets all state requirements, it places special emphasis on crash avoidance, situational awareness, and zone control. The academic component includes 15 or 16 classroom lessons, each lesson being 2 hours long. The driving component typically includes 12 or 13 behind-the-wheel lessons.
