Health Careers

Personal Care Attendant (PCA)                                                                 

$175 (17.5 hours) – text included

This course is designed for practicing PCAs, those considering becoming a PCA, and for people that are caring for someone in their home. Topics include infection control, safe transfer of patients, nutrition, and personal care. Each of the six classes will offer a hands on component. Up to 50% in tuition assistance may be available.

Licensed Nurse Assistant (LNA)                                  

$1050 course  - text $75 – licensing fees $150   (no payment online at this time) 

This 119 hour State Board of Nursing approved course focuses on essentials for nursing assistants, and safe and effective practices in the health care setting. Students learn the basics of assisting patients, body mechanics, ethics, and communication, while preparing for licensing exam. The written and skill LNA test is scheduled upon completion. Applicants must be able to pass a background check. Proof of immunizations and current TB test must be received with registration.Up to 50% tuition assistance may be available.  Limit 8 students.

Medication Nursing Assistant (MNA)                                          

$1200 course  - texts and materials $100     (no payment online at this time)

50% off is available for all students that do not qualify VSAC non-degree grant

The definition of a MNA is a LNA who is authorized by a special endorsement from the Vermont Board of Nursing  to administer certain medications to residents in nursing homes. A MNA is supervised on-site, on the unit by an LPN, RN, or APRN.

This class is offered to LNAs who hold an unencumbered Vermont LNA license and have no fewer than 4000 hours of LNA experience, 2000 hours or one year must be in a long term care nursing facility. Candidates must be at least 18 years of age  and have a high school diploma or GED and successfully complete TABE in Applied Mathematics Level D6.

To be eligible for testing, a student must complete 100 hours of training: 60 classroom/lab hours at the North Country Career Center, and 40 clinical hours at the Bel Aire Center. Limit 8 students.

Job Ready and Career Exploration

Prepare to be a Paraeducator                                             

$120 (12 hours) plus $35 text

This course introduces students to the diverse role of paraeducators in the classroom including an introduction to the profession, an overview of the role and responsibilities, how services are provided, inclusion, collaborative teaming, instructional strategies, and how to support students with challenging behaviors. This course also reviews materials that will be required for the ParaPro exam that is given by district’s supervisory unions. Up to 50% tuition assistance may be available.

Customer Service and Cash Register Training                                       

$150.00 (15 hours)

Learn how to serve customers with confidence and impress managers with your capability. Now offering more hands-on training with our school cash registers. Up to 50% tuition assistance may be available.

Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Training     

Class A $5200 / Class B $3500    (Class A 160 hours / Class B 75 hours)

Create new career possibilities for yourself with a CDL. To qualify for a CDL in Vermont, you must be at least 18 years old, have a valid driver’s license, pass a vision exam, and obtain a medical certificate. The United States Department of Transportation requires that all drivers, who transport materials across state lines, be at least 21 years old. Tuition includes permit, license, and testing fees. Grants may be available through VSAC and the Department of Labor for females and minorities.

Have a really nice camera with full manual operation, but you are not sure how to take the best pictures? Learn the purpose of the knobs and buttons. Take it even further by learning about the exposure triangle, composition, and lighting. Students must bring their own DSLR camera to class.
