Dear NCCC Families,
We are looking forward to welcoming new and returning students for a year of great learning opportunities!
The first day of regular classes at NCCC will be Friday, August 28. This will be a B day.
NCUHS and LRUHS students will begin the school year on August 27 at their home high school and join us at NCCC on August 28 for regular classes. Homeschooled students, students from all other high schools, and adult students will also begin their classes at NCCC on Friday, August 28.

Your student’s instructor will be in touch via Parent Square with a Welcome Letter. Instructors can be contacted directly through the Parent Square platform.

***The attendance section in the student handbook is especially important to review. All communication about student absences must be sent to as well as the attendance office at NCUHS, LRUHS, or LI. Attendance is carefully tracked at NCCC because we report seat time to the Agency of Education. Missing over 45 blocks of class in one school year impacts a student’s ability to be a completer of a program. Please read the handbook for details.

NCCC understands how important cell phones are to students and families for communication. We believe both students and families can also agree that to be productive in school and in the workforce, we need to teach boundaries on cell phone usage.
Vermont Law is now in effect for School year 2026-2027, 16 V.S.A. § 583. The goal of the policy, according to the Agency of Education, is to enable both students and teachers to work free from distractions that impact learning by prohibiting student use of and access to cell phones and other prohibited devices during the academic day from arrival to dismissal.
The goals of creating a cell-phone free school are positive in nature and meant to promote learning and healthy socialization:
- Creating classroom environments where teachers can teach and students can learn free from distractions caused by the personal use of devices
- Reducing the negative impacts of cyberbullying and exposure to harmful content
- Increasing meaningful face-to-face connections between students, and students and staff
What are the expectations for students and families?
- Arrival to Dismissal NO PHONES - Students cannot use personal mobile devices (phones, smartwatches, airpods, tablets) at all during the school day. This includes in the hallways between classes, in the bathrooms, and during lunch.
- Storage - Personal mobile devices must be turned off and kept in the storage location chosen by the student and their family. (Backpack, locker, lockbox in NCCC classroom, lockbox in NCCC Main Office, student vehicle) Students will not be allowed to keep phones in their pockets.
- Can Use - Students can only use school issued laptops while at school. If needed a student could use their cell phone in the NCCC main office to make a phone call.
- Parent Contact - During the day if you need to get a message to your student:
- Email your student directly, or email or send a Parentsquare to your NCCC instructor or NCCC Director, Gwen Bailey-Rowe
- Call the NCCC Main office, 802-334-5469 and leave a message with reception, or dial x3300 for Elisa Hastings
What will happen if a student is seen using a personal mobile device during the school day?
- 1st Offense - The device will be brought to the NCCC main office and returned to the student at the end of the day.
- 2nd Offense - The device will be brought to the main office and must be picked up by a parent/guardian.
- Third Offense - The student will be required to bring the device to the NCCC main office for the remainder of the semester or the school year.
As a school community, we anticipate there will be significant benefits to student learning based on new cell phone expectations, and if there are challenges we will work in partnership with families.
