NCCC In the News

A collage of photos celebrating Mr. Ross, featuring him with colleagues and students, with a heartfelt message of thanks.

Daniel J. Ross - Goodbye and Thank You! It is with a very heavy collective heart but also with so much gratitude that North Country Career Center says farewell to our colleague, a devoted teacher, a student mentor, and for so many of us a wise and loyal friend. Dan passed away yesterday and we extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends and legions of former students.

Dan was a 'Renaissance Man' in that he could build or repair almost anything mechanical or electrical and was a wizard of so many skill sets. He is beloved by generations of students who took a wide variety of his classes. He used to refer to himself as 'the meanest teacher in the building' but we all knew that within lay a heart of gold and a most generous spirit. A good day at NCCC always included a suspender sighting and a good conversation with the one and only Mr. Ross.

A collage showcasing NCCC Engineering & Digital Fabrication students learning about renewable solar energy, featuring students working on a solar panel system, a diagram of a solar panel, and a student explaining a concept on a whiteboard.

NCCC Engineering & Digital Fabrication students are participating in a Solar Installation & Design class with program instructor Hazen Converse. Students are learning about designing and installing a system, off grid vs. net metering, as well as rebates. The curriculum covered the essential skills and knowledge required to design and install solar systems on a home or business. Students use program equipment to identify components and read specifications on panels

Mr. Converse is excited to have his students take advantage of this opportunity. “Whether you're a community member curious about renewable energy or someone looking to start a career in solar, this training is an excellent stepping stone,” he stated, adding "going solar is one path people can take to help curb their carbon footprint".

Hilarie Wright from The Halo Foundation is presented with a check from students for the HALO foundation.

Tis the season for giving and the North Country Career Center was grateful to present The Halo Foundation with a $7,250 donation that will benefit community members and families who are fighting cancer. NCCC students worked hard in creating, fabricating, and gathering a slate of great raffle prizes and then worked even harder to raise funds - what a success! Giving back and paying it forward is the true spirit of this season.

NCCC Application Season is now open for the 25 - 26 school year!

Interested students can find applications in the main Career Center Office and the LRUHS and NCUHS counseling offices. The priority deadline is February 21, 2025.

To help students considering a NCCC program make informed, intentional decisions NCCC programs have been hosting student visits for the last week. Yesterday a number of Health Sciences students demonstrated 'Stop the Bleed', how to use PPE (personal protective equipment), shared their clinical experiences, and gave interested students a glimpse into the fascinating and broad array of career pathways.

For more information about NCCC programs and how to apply, please contact Amy Pickering, NCCC School Counseling Coordinator, amy.pickering@ncsuvt.org; and Gillian Staniforth, NCCC Outreach Coordinator gillian.staniforth@ncsuvt.org

A group of people stand on a stage decorated with pink and white, with a sign that reads 'Goal 20K' and a pink ribbon.

The North Country Career Center is overwhelmed and so grateful for the community response to the Breast Cancer Raffle which was a huge success beyond our imagination.  Part of the magic was observing students engaging in a cause that supported one of our teachers and our greater community. Watching students create many of the raffle prizes using the skills they have learned in their programs superbly demonstrates what career and technical education is all about. We also have a talented and generous staff. Congratulations to all the prize winners, each of whom have been contacted. Thanks again for all your support!

A group of students and their trainer pose for a photo in a forest setting. The caption reads 'Congratulations Natural Resources!' and lists the names of the individuals in the photo.

Congratulations to Natural Resources students for successfully completing 4 days of 'Game of Logging' and earning this valuable certification.  Ian Irwin from Northeast Woodland Training put them through their paces and certified their skills in felling trees, limbing and bucking techniques, spring poles, cutting large diameter double bore and small diameter back leaning techniques, how to get hung up trees down (cutting and mechanical advantage) and techniques for cutting dead and storm damaged trees.

The Mobile Mug team

With great enthusiasm and wide smiles, The Mobile Mug Team from North Country Union High School presented a generous gift to Mrs. Jaminet in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  These students offer a great service to our wider school community providing hot morning beverages and baked goods.  Students are learning important skills and more importantly are connecting with their wider community on the most important level - showing compassion and care for others. Thanks to Cheryl Bugbee, their teacher and mentor, and the great staff who work with all these students.

Tia Judd-- Business Leadership & marketing teacher

Tia Judd is a very busy person! In addition to teaching Business Leadership & Marketing which includes overseeing the day-to-day operation of the Falcon's Nest -  the NCCC school store, she is in the final stages of completing her MBA.  She is the FBLA Advisor for NCCC and has a wealth of financial acumen through her diverse experience at the Community National Bank.  Her passion is operating a family farm with her husband Tyler, spending countless hours sugaring, haying, caring for animals and of course chasing her two young sons.  Her newly discovered past time is line dancing - this happens anywhere and often!
